About Generation Vote

Bridging campuses and communities, collaborating across sectors and issues, Generation Vote members have teamed up to more effectively promote the leadership and voices of young people in the current election cycle. At the same time, we are building the relationships, strategic vision and institutional power necessary to create long-term systemic change.

Generation Vote members are united in the belief that the young people most directly affected by the social, economic and environmental policies up for debate this year are the natural visionaries and leaders of social change. Grounded in this principle, we aim to move the issues and perspectives of impacted young people from the periphery to the very center of the national dialogue.

Representing a diverse cross-section of leading national youth and student organizations, Generation Vote members have come together around the following goals:
  • Coordination/Collaboration: Identify and leverage opportunities for coordination of already planned vote work and develop strategic new collaborative efforts to educate, train, mobilize and protect youth and student voters (particularly low-income youth and youth of color).

  • Capacity Building: Utilize voter engagement/organizing strategies to develop youth and student leadership, engage young people who have been shut out of the political process, recruit new organizational members and build organizational and campaign capacities, over the long-term.

  • Bridge-Building: Promote an ethic of collaboration among and build sustainable bridges between participating campus-based and community-based organizations, across sectors and issues.

  • Issue Promotion: Place a national spotlight on the priority concerns of youth and students, particularly those issues most impacting historically disenfranchised communities.

  • Joint Infrastructure Development: Build a national communications and coordination infrastructure and issues platform to serve as the foundation for an ongoing collaborative civic engagement initiative.

Generation Vote is an initiative of Generational Alliance, a national collaborative network that connects youth and student organizations, across sector and issue, to build a long-term, strategic and integrated movement for social change.

Generational Alliance is a project of The Tides Center.
