Following the 2022 midterms- which had the second highest youth turnout rate ever - state legislators continue to introduce voter suppression measures that target young people and communities of color.

Make no mistake, our generation is facing the democratic crisis of our lifetime. The time is NOW for a bold cross-class, multiracial movement of young people to raise the urgency of this crisis and advance a new vision for a democracy that works for all of us. In the lead-up to the 2024 election, Generation Vote will change the narrative of what it means for young people to fight for a just democracy in our communities and spark a national conversation that will make electoral justice a top priority for our generation.

In 2023, the GenVote National team built on the success of our national 2021 Youth Voting Rights listening tour and embark on our first in-person, “Just Democracy for All” tour to spark the conversation with local allies and young people around a central question: “What does a truly just democracy for all look like in our communities in 2024, and beyond?”

GenVote hosted Just Democracy for All Tour sessions in Texas, Wisconsin, Nevada, Florida and Michigan. Our sessions were held in community/movement spaces, community centers, churches and other faith institutions, bookstores, libraries or public schools. Our tour stops created intentional space through interactive listening sessions, designed to be a space for young people to step outside the status quo and challenge participants to reimagine what a just democracy for all looks like in our communities. From our stops, we gathered testimonials and our collective visions across the country for the first youth-led national electoral justice summit.
